Tips for Classroom Spring Cleaning

March 15, 2017

While it may not seem like it (thanks to winter storm Stella), spring is just a few days away! If your classroom has been closed up for months, take the next couple of days to start spring cleaning. Here are a few ways you can get your classroom ready for the warmer weather while remaining environmentally conscious.

  1. Instead of using paper towels to clean surfaces, try reusable rags. This will cut down on waste and give surfaces a better shine.
  2. By adding some greenery, you can brighten up your classroom and improve its air quality. Plants like aloe vera, lavender, and peace lily are just a few of the plants listed in NASA’s Clean Air Study.
  3. Keep kids from tracking in dirt and debris after recess by laying down a welcome mat.
  4. Have kids go around the classroom and look for things that are broken or no longer used. See if you can donate anything lying around, or see if you can repurpose it and create something new!
  5. If you spray a chemical air freshener in the classroom, think about switching to a natural alternative, like sweet smelling plants. Chemical fresheners have hundreds of toxic chemicals that aren’t good for your lungs or the environment.
  6. Chemical cleaners can also be filled with toxins. Skip the store and make your own cleaning solutions right there in the classroom with:
  • 1/2 cup of baking soda
  • 1/2 cup liquid soap
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar

Here at Nickerson Corporation, we are also heavily committed to engaging in environmentally friendly business practices and make it a priority to work with manufacturers who share similar values. To keep up with our green efforts, we offer products that are durable (to minimize waste), made from easily replicable parts (to eliminate the need to completely replace such products), and manufactured in a way that does not emit damaging products into our environment.
