Getting Your Kid Ready For Fall Sports

July 27, 2017

As your kids slowly begin to get ready for going back to school this fall, don’t forget to think about their fall sports. Whether it’s your child’s first, second, or third year, it’s never a bad thing to be too prepared. So before you hit the bleachers, here are a few things to think about this summer as we head into the fall sports season:

Practice Makes Perfect

No matter what sport your child chooses, practicing at home is an excellent way to prepare for the year ahead. Enjoy some family time in the yard doing some drills, or warm ups, and talk to your child about the positions they want to play and why. Not only will it prepare them for the season up ahead, but it will bring you closer together.

Schedule Their Physical

If this is their first time playing sports, a yearly physical might be needed. Some school nurses may offer it, but it’s best to get it done as early as possible to avoid waiting for an available appointment. Besides, it will be one less piece of paperwork you’ll have to worry about come fall.

Go Over the Rules and Routines

To help your child fully succeed and give them an advantage over the rest, have a chat about the rules and regulations of the game. Rules can often vary by school, so it might also be a good idea to meet the coach before practices begin. Purchase proper equipment and work on a weekly routine so your child can get accustomed to his or her after school games and practices.

Be Prepared to Cheer

Now that you’re prepared, it’s time to become the fan! Keep track of games and practices and make sure they work with your weekly schedule. Having family there for support is one of the best ways to boost your child’s confidence.
