Spring Cleaning Tips For The Classroom

After the enormous amount of snow we had this winter, most Long Island residents would probably agree that it seemed like the spring would never come. But although snow and winter weather conditions aren’t completely off our radar yet, this week’s high temperatures offered a little bit of hope that spring is on its way. And that brings us to our next thought –

With a new season in sight, spring cleaning is a popular topic that many people likely have on their mind. As we get ready to welcome in the warm weather and sunshine that we have anticipated for so long, we thought we would offer a few spring cleaning tips to help you in your classroom – spring cleaning doesn’t always just have to be about the home!

1. Eliminate Old Files: Between your filing cabinets and desk drawers alone, there is a good chance that you have an excessive amount of class related materials. However, if you have carried them with you from year to year or haven’t organized them since September, there is a good chance that much of what you have is outdated and no longer necessary. To make more space for yourself and de-clutter your classroom, now is the perfect time to sift through your files and eliminate what you don’t need.
2. Organize Supplies: Whether you are a first grade teacher or a twelfth grade teacher, pens, pencils, staplers and more will be found around your classroom. And with students using these supplies every day, chances are they are going to build up and get out of order. To ensure that your classroom is as neat as possible, take a few minutes to organize any supply cabinets or bins you have around the classroom.
3. Disinfect, Disinfect and Disinfect Some More: Germs are a natural part of the classroom, yes, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be washed away. After a long winter where cold and flu season made itself known, one could only imagine how many germs have made your classroom their new home. If you’re looking to have a healthy start to the spring, be sure to wipe down all of your classroom desks, keyboards, door knobs and more to put as many germs as you can to rest.
